Most patients lose between 10 and 20 pounds by the time their skin sutures or staples are removed and average about a 10 pound weight loss monthly thereafter for about nine to fifteen months, losing a total of one-third of the pre-operative weight. It takes about three months before the weight loss really shows and you begin to feel good after surgery. At this time most patients have their dietary intake under good control so that they have little trouble with nausea and vomiting. By eight months, most find they can eat more and the weight loss begins to slow down. If you are not losing fast enough or wish to attain a lower weight, diet counseling can be introduced at this stage. Weight loss can be maintained by proper eating habits and regular exercise. Most people will have lost about 100 pounds twelve months after their operation. Your weight loss will level off as your body readjusts itself to the number of calories that you are able to consume due to your limited stomach capacity. |
